What is search engine optimisation and how can it help?
Search engines allow users to search the whole web for sites relating to a particular subject or offering goods and services in which they are interested. You have almost certainly used some of these at some time, if not regularly. There are a number of such search engines with the most popular being Google, Yahoo, MSN and AOL. There are others, that you may know or use, but most of the other search engines tend to carry less than 2% of the search engine traffic each. Google and Yahoo are the most popular search engines, each carrying more than 30% of the search engine traffic. You can find Google (our prefered search engine) at www.google.co.uk and Yahoo at www.yahoo.co.uk. Notice that both these web addresses have a .co.uk suffix. www.google.com and www.yahoo.com are more commonly used but by selecting the .co.uk versions of these search engines you can choose to search the entire web or just UK sites.
Search engines will most often find tens, if not hundreds, of thousands of sites that match the key words or phrases entered. Users however, seldom look at sites appearing beyond the first page or two of the list. So how can you make sure that your site is given a high ranking? Well at TCS we have the 'know-how' to attempt this for you by search engine optimisation. This can be a long and complex task with no guarantee of success, especially if there is intense competition on your chosen search keywords. However, we also have software that can help us decide if there is a good chance of optimisation success and we only charge you if our agreed targets are reached. These targets are agreed with you in advance. If successful, a page one or two listing for your site on an engine can significantly increase your web traffic that will then result in a dramatic increase in business, provided that your web site is easy to use and professionally designed.
